One person was killed, six others were injured in a collision involving a private ambulance and four other vehicles on the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway in Sherman Oaks. A child was reportedly among the victims. The collision occurred at 11:01 a.m. near the Burbank Boulevard, according to Melissa Kelley with the Los Angeles Fire Department. "Seven patients all were transported to area hospitals suffering from a range of injuries from minor to critical," Kelley said. The driver of a silver Kia was trapped in the car and reported to be "in full cardiac arrest" when firefighters arrived. The man had to be extricated from one of the vehicles, said California Highway Patrol Officer David Porter. He was was transported to Encino Hospital where he later died, according to officials. Southbound traffic on the 405 Freeway was blocked, and traffic was being diverted to the Ventura (101) Freeway, he said. The cause of the collision was not immediately known. |
