Huron Valley Ambulance struck from behind by SUV on US-23 - Michigan
An ambulance and SUV were involved in a crash on southbound US-23 in Pittsfield Township Friday afternoon, causing serious injuries to the SUV driver and minor injuries to a paramedic, officials said.
The crash occurred around 3 p.m. on southbound US-23 south of I-94 in Pittsfield Township.
State Police officials said the ambulance from Huron Valley Ambulance was in the left lane when it was struck from behind by the SUV. Police did not have further details on the speed of the vehicles or whether the ambulance was responding to a call.
Pittsfield Township fire officials said the SUV had extensive front-end damage, causing the driver to be pinned into the vehicle. Firefighters spent 30 minutes using tools to remove the driver’s door, passenger door and the roof to free the driver, a press release said.
The driver was taken to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital with serious but non life-threatening injuries. A paramedic was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
Southbound US-23 was closed for more than an hour after the crash.
