Man charged for pointing gun at paramedics - Canada

A 22-year-old man was arrested after pointing a gun at Winnipeg paramedics who were trying to treat him.

The incident happened Friday at about 2:30 a.m. in the city's Norwood neighbourhood, police said.

Members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service had been called to a residence inside an apartment building at 116 Chandos Avenue for a medical emergency.

As they were treating a man, he became confrontational and threatened them with a firearm, causing them to flee the residence, police said.

When officers arrived, the man initially refused to exit the building. After a brief standoff, the man gave himself up and was arrested in the residence at about 3:45 a.m.

Two BB guns were seized from the apartment, police said.

The man has been charged with numerous firearms related offences and has been detained in custody the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
