Ambulance hits deer, firefighter taken to ER - Illinois
A Mattoon firefighter was injured when a fire department ambulance struck a deer late Wednesday night, Mattoon Fire Chief Tony Nichols said.
Rob Ratliff, who was attending to a patient in the rear of the ambulance, was taken to Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center shortly after the 9:30 p.m. crash on U.S. Route 45 near Humboldt, Nichols said. Ambulances were called to take the injured firefighter and the patient in the MFD ambulance. No other injuries were reported.
The collision has put the fire department ambulance out of service until the front end is repaired. The deer was put down by law enforcement at the scene.
