Ambulance Crash Log

Ambulance collides with police car - Virginia

A rescue squad ambulance and a Fredericksburg police car collided in Central Park early today, but no one suffered serious injuries, police said.

The Fredericksburg Rescue Squad ambulance was using its emergency lights to transport a patient to the hospital when it collided with the city police car about 2 a.m., said city police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe.

She said the crash occurred at the intersection of Carl D. Silver Parkway and Central Park Boulevard.

The ambulance overturned following the crash and the collision also damaged a pickup truck and Dodge Neon stopped at the traffic light at Cowan Boulevard.

The ambulance was transporting a patient from TGIFriday's while the patrol car driven by Cpl. Josh Lynch was responding to a fight call at Bailey's Pub. The ambulance had a red light at the intersection of Central Park Boulevard and Carl D. Silver. The ambulance had its emergency equipment activated and slowed at the intersection but did not stop, police said. The police car had the green light and did not have its emergency equipment activated, Bledsoe said.

The original patient in the ambulance, a passenger in the Neon and the two rescue volunteers were taken to the hospital by other ambulances.

The police officer went to the hospital on his own after the accident, Bledsoe said.

The driver of the ambulance, Joshua Gill, 22, of Stafford was charged with reckless driving.

The patient being transported, Holly Pierce, 26, an employee at TGIFriday’s, had suffered a seizure there. She was admitted to the hospital but has been released.

Damage estimates to the vehicles were not immediately available.
