Ambulance Flips In Crash On Atlantic Blvd. - Florida
A Jacksonville rescue unit carrying a mother and child to a hospital overturned in a collision Sunday that critically injured the driver of the other vehicle, authorities said.
An eastbound Mustang drifted into the westbound lane of Atlantic Boulevard at Century 21 Drive about 6 p.m. and collided with the rescue unit, flipping it on its side, police said. A child who was the patient in the rescue unit and others in the ambulance, including the child's mother, were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, said Sgt. B.E. Baker of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
The driver of the Mustang, whose name wasn't available, was taken to Shands Jacksonville in critical condition, said Lt. Mike Peery of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.
Peery and Baker said the rescue unit's lights were on after the accident. They said they didn't know if the siren was being sounded. Baker said no tickets were issued Sunday.
