Bike paramedic hit by car at DNC - Colorado

A Denver Health bike paramedic answering a call was hit by a car and seriously injured Wednesday night.

Brian Schimpf, 28, was in a bike lane at 18th and Market streets in Lower Downtown when he was hit. He was headed to a distress call at 18th and Blake streets.

Schimpf's paramedic partner cared for him until an ambulance arrived and took him to Denver Health Medical Center.

He will be hospitalized overnight, but is expected to recover, said hospital spokeswoman Dee Martinez.

Police said the accident, which happened about 8:30 p.m., is under investigation.

Schimpf was wearing a helmet when he was hit, Martinez said.
