Couple quick notes:

1- To apply online, go to http://www.hcmc.org/general/employment.htm I don't think they do paper applications anymore. You can cut and paste your resume' into the application.

2- I'll be honest, it's not common for even "experienced" paramedics to
start higher than starting wage (those monthly wages are based on a
standard 40 hour week (which is the normal schedule), and does not
include things like evening, night, or weekend differential. So, that
starting wage is just shy of $20/hour. Top is currently the other
number, which is $30.40/hour...at the 10 year mark.

3- For those that actually want make a career of this, the Police and
Fire pension allows for full pension at any age with 30 years service,
or at age 55 with at least 10 years. The other benefit is that full
pension occurs if you have a line of duty injury that permanently (>1
year) prevents you from working as a paramedic. Non LODI (off duty
accidents, etc.) disability, is 50% of base pay.

4- Everyone works weekends and holidays. While the shifts are bid by
seniority, all shifts work some holidays (some work more). It's simply a
matter of, "if a holiday occurs on your shift, you work it, if not, you
don't". Except for 1 small power shift block, everyone works
weekends...and the same number of weekends.

5- The hospital has tuition reimbursement. This is 75% of tuition up to
$5K per year for college classes.
