Paramedic assaulted by a patient - Minnesota
Sunday afternoon paramedics responded to a call from a bar in Northeast Minneapolis.
They found 49-year-old Daniel Pionk lying on the ground in front of Vegas Lounge.
A bouncer told paramedics he was forced to wrestle Pionk to the ground after an apparent fight inside the bar.
Paramedics say once inside the ambulance Pionk became belligerent after being asked his address. Poink grabbed the hand of the
paramedic trying to help him and slammed it into the stretcher repeatedly.
The paramedic driving was forced to stop the ambulance and restrain Pionk until they reached HCMC.
An x-ray showed that Pionk had fractured the paramedic's right hand.
Pionk was also treated and then taken into custody on two felony assault charges.
Pionk's daughter tells KARE 11 her father suffers from a mental illness related to seizures and a brain tumor discovered a few years ago.
She says he's spent time at a mental institution and was in an assisted living facility at the time of this incident.
