Curmudgeon Feedback

Feedback: Curmudgeon's Corner ; Shawn Godfrey

Dear John:

Let me start by thanking you for the kind words written in your letter regarding my iberkshires.com column, EMS: Courage and Compassion in Action. I appreciate not only your eagerness to read the column, but your willingness to share the research you've obtained over your long and, I'm assuming, rewarding EMS career. With the many over-inflated egos in a vocation particularly saturated with gossip and backstabbing, it's not too often someone like yourself comes along. To know this gives me hope and for that I am grateful. Your column "Who and Where are the Next Visionaries" makes a strong case that we need more people willing to make positive changes in EMS at the practitioner and layperson level, respectively.

Regarding your column "The Angels From Above", I found it intriguing and nicely written. There's no denying the research expended on your behalf, that's for sure. I especially liked the chronological photos to help delineate between the advancements of air medical units and those trained to man them.

If you're agreeable, I would like to circulate your work among the employees here. Since your tenure in EMS has been relatively longer than most, I believe your writing may offer a "real life" perspective to those just starting out in the trade.

Again, thank you for your letter and your unrelenting drive to make EMS a respectable and positive experience for all involved. Please stay in touch!

Best regards,
Shawn Godfrey
