SUV collides with ambulance on Route 9 - Middle Township, New Jersey

Two people were treated and released from the hospital after an ambulance carrying a patient Tuesday collided with an SUV.

The SUV driver, Cheryl Desimone, 36, of Pennsylvania, was issued a summons for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, police said.

The Dennis Township Ambulance was traveling south on Route 9 in Swainton when it approached the SUV, which was stopped in traffic waiting to make a left turn into a private driveway, police said.

The ambulance attempted to pass the SUV on the left, but the SUV began to turn at the same time. The ambulance struck the SUV, injuring the ambulance driver, Robert Tesoroni III, 29, and a passenger, whose identity was not released. Desimone was also injured.

Middle Township and Avalon rescue squads took the three to Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital in Cape May Court House for treatment along with the patient. Desimone and Tesoroni were treated and released; the unnamed passenger's condition was unavailable.

The accident is still under investigation by Patrolman Gino Castellano.
