The patient, ambulance driver and attending paramedic were injured, according to Park County Public Information Officer Steve Groome. All three people in the ambulance were transported to Summit Medical Center in Frisco and were evaluated. State Trooper Gilbert Mares said the ambulance driven by James T. Franklin, 39, of Fairplay, went out of control while going around a left-hand curve and went off the right side of the roadway, down the hillside and stopped on its wheels.
Franklin, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries.
Two unrestrained passengers, Dustin Stevens, 25, of Fairplay, and Peter Kolts, 35, of Alma, suffered moderate injuries. The accident happened at 7:24 a.m. on Park County Road 6 at Quartsville. That's about 3 miles south of the top of Hoosier Pass. The accident was thought to have been caused by the driver suspected of driving too fast on icy, snow packed road conditions in the area. |
