Andrew J. Haischer, EMT (ret) - Hancock, Michigan

Andrew J. Haischer, 79, a resident of Fir Street, Hancock, passed away late Monday evening, February 12, 2007, at Portage Hospital following a short illness.

He was born on March 29, 1927, in Hancock, a son of the late Andrew and Irene (O’Leary) Haischer. As a child, he attended the Jeffers School.

Andrew was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean War.

On December 19, 1953, he was united in marriage to the former Ruth V. Moilanen.

Mr. Haischer was a member of S.S. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church in Hancock. He was a life member of Bay Post 6028 VFW of Dollar Bay and a past member of the Hancock Fire Department.

Mr. Haischer worked for the Bosch Brewery of Houghton.

He then worked for the City of Hancock, retiring as a dispatcher/truck driver.

Andrew also worked for Mercy Ambulance as an EMT for 20 years.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a grandson, Michael T. Busser; and his sister, Nancy Gasvoda.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth of Hancock; seven children, Karen Haischer of Hancock, John (Julianne) Haischer of Hancock Canal, Jack Haischer of Dollar Bay, Sandy Busser of Dollar Bay, Laura (Gerald) Kinnunen of Atlantic Mine, Jay (Terri) Haischer of Atlantic Mine, Sheri (D.J.) Dulong of Franklin Mine; three grandsons, Jay Busser, Corbin Haischer and Andrew Dulong; five granddaughters, Heather Busser, Pamela Busser, Hollie Kinnunen, Joy Kinnunen and Vanessa Dulong; an aunt, Rose Jauch of Madison, Wis.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service for Andrew will be held at 12 noon Saturday, February 17, 2007, in the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hancock with Revs. David Weber and Robert Paul to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.

Friends may call on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home where Bay Post 6028 will hold a memorial service at 11:45 a.m.

In lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests memorials may be give to S.S. Peter & Paul Lutheran Church in Hancock, the Omega House in Houghton or the charity of one’s choice.
