Ambulance Crash Log
2 killed as medical flight crashes - Johnstown, Pennsylvania

Dec 27, 2006, 09:55

A small plane traveling to New Jersey crashed on an airport runway and exploded in flames Tuesday, killing the pilot and a nurse, authorities said.

The twin engine, propeller-driven Cessna 414 crashed at John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airport at about 3:55 p.m., the Federal Aviation Administration said.

Cambria County Coroner Dennis Kwiatkowski said the victims were both women, but was not immediately releasing their names until relatives were notified.

The plane, registered to Wharf Place LLC, in Morgantown, W.Va., was en route from Morgantown to Teterboro.

Kwiatkowski said the plane was a medical flight going to New Jersey to pick up a patient, although it wasn’t clear what the plane’s final destination was.

FAA officials said icing may have been a factor in the crash. The pilot had indicated there was a problem and was cleared for an emergency landing in Johnstown, authorities said.
