A Deer Park ambulance crashed into a smoke shop this morning after reportedly colliding with a van, injuring three people and clogging a major roadway during rush hour, Suffolk officials said.

The circumstances of the crash were still being investigated. Fire communications officials said the ambulance was responding to a call when it crashed at 8:35 a.m. into Kristy's Smoke Shop Incorporated at 1836 Deer Park Ave.

No one at the store could be reached this morning.

The driver of the ambulance, and a medic suffered injuries; one of the subjects had to be extricated by firefighters. The driver of the van also suffered injuries. All injuries were reported to be non-life threatening.

Suffolk police said traffic on Deer Park Avenue was diverted to Lake Avenue -- the intersection where the accident occurred -- for about 30 minutes.
