Ambulance Crash Log
Ambulance crash injures one - West Pennsboro Township, Pennsylvania

Feb 21, 2006, 15:31

An ambulance driver on his way to a medical emergency had to be taken to the hospital himself Monday after he crashed while trying to pass a tractor in West Pennsboro Township, state police at Carlisle say.

Chase L. Quirk, 36, was not seriously injured, however, even though the 2001 Ford F-250 he was driving crashed into a billboard along Route 641, police say.

The wreck occurred at the intersection of Green Hill Road as Quirk, who had both his lights flashing and siren blaring, attempted to pass a 2002 Fendt 926 farm tractor driven by Kevin D. Houp, 18, of Chambersburg. Police say Houp didn’t see the ambulance and began turning left onto Green Hill Road.

As result of the crash, the ambulance — unit 17-81 of West Shore Advanced Life Support — had severe damage to its front end and both sides. The tractor, meanwhile, had slight damage to its left front wheel.

A second ambulance was dispatched to the initial emergency, dispatchers said.
