When Sara Emiliano was able to work, she was a willing and helpful volunteer for the Hillsborough Rescue Squad.
Emiliano, 21, was remembered Monday by emergency medical technicians with the squad, where she volunteered for nearly four years.
"She was always willing to do whatever we wanted her to do," said Dave Foelsch, a township EMT. Emiliano worked there from Dec. 17, 2001, to April 22, 2005, and had dreams of becoming a nurse.
Investigators believe Emiliano, 21, was killed by her mother, Emmalene, 57, at their home Saturday. After stabbing her daughter to death, Emmalene Emiliano drove to the Millstone River in Montgomery and apparently drowned herself there, Somerset County Prosecutor Wayne J. Forrest said.
Nobody knows why she did it, Mr. Emiliano said.
Richard Emiliano said the note found in the home indicated his daughter had been depressed. Investigators believe the note was written by her mother.
A double funeral for mother and daughter is scheduled for Thursday. Arrangements are under the direction of Ketusky Funeral Home, 1310 Brooks Blvd., Manville (908) 575-8512.
