An ambulance en route to a medical emergency crashed into a car on Elm Street near Frye Street, sending at least one person to the hospital.

The ambulance was headed eastbound on Elm, when it collided with the side of a black Chevrolet Celebrity coupe heading the opposite direction. Witnesses said the coupe turned into the ambulance's path.

The driver of the coupe was taken away on a stretcher.

"The ambulance was going fast," said Vinny DaSilva, 10, who was walking to the Boys and Girls Club when the accident happened. "The car turned, and the ambulance crashed into it."

Police said it was too early to provide information as to how the crash happened.
