Woman Assaults Paramedic With Car - Illinois
A woman has been arrested and charged with aggravated battery after trapping a paramedic's arm in her car window as she drove around.
Fire Department paramedics were loading a patient into an ambulance at 2:15 p.m. Monday at 8228 S. Langley Ave. when the woman tried to drive around the ambulance onto the curb, police said.
A paramedic's arm was trapped in the driver's side window as the woman began driving in reverse and hit several parked cars, police said. The woman then attempted to flee the scene, but was arrested a short time later, police said.
The woman, Athena Morris, 49, was treated and released from Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center, and the paramedic was treated for minor injuries, police said.
Police discovered Morris was driving a rental car without authorization.
Morris, of the 7900 block of South Ellis Avenue, was charged with aggravated battery, and her bond was to be set Tuesday. She was also ticketed for not carrying a driver's license, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident with damage, and criminal trespass to a vehicle, police said.
