A paramedic became the patient after he was attacked and kicked while at a call yesterday.
EMS spokesman Ben Morgan said paramedics were called to a drug overdose in Royal Oak yesterday morning and as one of the paramedics was treating the patient, he was assaulted.
"He was kicked by the male patient," said Morgan. "We have no idea why he acted that way."
Morgan said the paramedic was injured by the assault and his partner had to call an additional ambulance to come to the scene.
The injured veteran paramedic was taken to the hospital for examination while his partner continued treating the patient, said Morgan.
"It's pretty rare but not surprising," said Morgan of the assault.
Police continue to investigate and charges are pending.
