The accident on Highway 231-431 in Hazel Green killed Dianna Bowden almost 2 weeks ago.

The memories of Dianna Bowden are as clear as the smile that always shone on her face.

But two weeks after an accident that killed her, what remains unclear, is how it happened.

The 18-year-old's dodge neon collided with a Lincoln Medical Center Amublance at the Joe Quick Highway 231-431 intersection.

State troopers say one of the drivers ran a red light, but say by law their investigation thus far shows neither of them had the right.

"Without lights and sirens a vehicle cannot speed or go through a red light. It has to abide by the same laws as any other motorist," says State Trooper Curtis Summerville. "At this point we believe the ambulance was on a non-emergency call. So the driver was not operating any emergency lights or sirens at that time."

But differing accounts from witnesses have troopers uncertain as to which driver ran the light.

Like many nights, the night of the accident many Hazel Green grads were hanging out in a parking lot, about a dozen of them 30 yards from the intersection where the accident happened.

Jessica Putman was one of those teens. "All my friends were standing here and she was sitting there and all a sudden she started to go and we looked and the light was green. Then we all turned around and started talking again and then we heard a big bang."

The driver of the ambulance, Charles Eakes, was treated and released from Huntsville Hospital by the following morning.

According to a supervisor at Lincoln Medical Center EMT Service, Eakes remains out of work due to injuries sustained in the crash.

But Dianna Bowden died on the scene of the accident.

It is a scene troopers have returned to and the only answer for troubled family and friends for now, is that the investigation into her death continues.

State troopers have 45 days to complete their investigation.

As in all traffic fatalities, they'll turn the evidence collected over to the district attorney who'll decide if it should go before a grand jury.
