Three people have been hurt, including two firefighters, after an ambulance and an SUV crashed Tuesday afternoon in Northwest D.C.

D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services spokesman Alan Etter said the ambulance had just left Howard University Hospital, and did not have a patient inside.

The crash happened at 9th and U streets, Northwest. Etter said the ambulance was heavily damaged and the SUV has damage to the passenger side.

The firefighters and the SUV driver are all hospitalized with what Etter called non-life-threatening injuries. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
