Ambulance Crash Injures Paramedics - Detroit, Michigan

Two paramedics were injured after a pickup truck crashed into their ambulance early Tuesday morning.

The ambulance was responding to a call at about 2:45 a.m. on Detroit's west side when a pickup truck heading in the wrong direction crashed into the vehicle. The ambulance was driving east on Milford and the pickup truck was driving north on Northfield, which is a one-way street.

The impact caused the ambulance to flip on its side. Firefighters reportedly had to cut the windshield to free the paramedics from the ambulance.

Witness Wanda Cunningham said she was grateful it was the middle of the night and that no children were outside playing when the crash occurred.

"This street has a lot of kids. Anybody could have been hurt," said Cunningham.

Both emergency medical services personnel were taken to a hospital. They were in good condition and expected to be OK. They were both reportedly wearing seat belts.

There was no word on the condition of the pickup truck driver and whether charges would be filed for the crash.
